What is Luan ?

Luan is a quarter inch thick, and usually is delivered in 4 x 8 sheets. It is manfactured by stacking thin strips of mahogany at right angles then bonding them to form large panels. The panels have an abrasive side and a smooth side. The smooth side should be placed facing up, when using the material as an underlayment.
