Particle Board (Luan)

Particle Board (Luan)

Particle Board is a more coarse material than plywood. It is not used for finishing or fine cabinetry, sometimes it's used in the construction process, often for forming concrete molds. Particle Board is made from wood chips, shavings of wood, sawdust, and a synthetic resin or other suitable binder, which is pressed and extruded. Particleboard is a composite material.

Particle Board vs. Plywood?

Plywood has many different finishing grades which can be used in highend millwork, where as particle board, because of it's coarse texture is usually restricted to construction or forming purposes. Particle Board is very cheap, and unattractive when comparted to conventional woods or plywood. And it's coarse material means it is rarely used as a finishing material. However, you can glue on plywood vaneers to it to make it more attractive, or paint it with a wood finish.

What is Board Plywood ?Board Plywood is a manufactured wood panel made from thin sheets of luan wood veneer. It is the most widely used wood products.

It is flexible, inexpensive, workable, and re-usable, and usually can be manufactured locally. Plywood is used instead of plain wood because of plywood's resistance to cracking, shrinkage, splitting, and twisting/warping, and because of its generally high strength.

Layers of panelled wood, are called Vaneers, are glued together, with adjacent plies having their wood grain at right angles to each other, to form a composite material. There alternation of the grain is called cross-graining and has several important benefits:Board Plywood Vaneers reduce the tendency of wood to split when nailed at the edges, this is a benefit for many do it yourself jobs, especially when you consider that most do it yourself'ers are novices in jobs for the first time.
