Luan Plywood Sheets Sizes

Luan Plywood Sheets Sizes

Plywoood Comes in a variety of sizes.. You may find hardwood and softwood plywood that are sold as 4 feet wide with a common length of a plywood sheet is 8', but you may come across four and twelve feet sheet lengths. The length and width are somewhat understandable, but I found the thickness dimension very puzzling.

In America, 3/4", 1/2" and 1/4" are the most common plywood sizes available. But, a 3/4" plywood size should be labeled (now they have actually started to label it) as 23/32", 1/2" as 15/32" and 1/4" as 7/32". This slight difference becomes an issue during construction work. For example, if a person who is into woodworking, needs to put up 1/2" plywood shelf into the dado cut of the shelf standard, then he will find a noticeable gap making the shelf slightly sloppy in the dado. So, the woodworker will have to cut the dado at 15/32" to make the shelf fit without any sloppiness.

The common varieties of softwood plywood are available in three, five and seven piles. Their length and breath dimensions are 1.2 m x 2.4 m (4 feet x 8 feet). The thickness dimension is 1/8 inch. For roofing you may use plywood sizes available in 3/8 inch. The floor boards are at least 5/8 inch in size, depending on the floor joists distance.

There are different types of plywood based on their thickness. Normally, plywood thickness ranges from 1/8" to 1-1/4".

Luan Wood Description :

Luan Wood Description

Luan Wood is made from several layers of thin sheets of material that are compressed together using a wood adhesive. The grain of the alternating wood is placed in the opposite direction of its next attached wood piece. This is how luan wood gets it strength, and in addition to this it is usually made around a solid core which is placed between luan plywood veneers which also increase the strength of the material for do it yourself home projects. Veneer wood is made of low quality mahogany wood. Luan is usually used for making furniture interiors, Doors and backing as well as for the underlayment of higher grade flooring materials such as Laminate, Vinyl flooring.

What are Luan Panels? Luan Plywood Panels are manufactured wood panel made from thin sheets of luan wood veneer. It is the most widely used wood products.

It is flexible, inexpensive, workable, and re-usable, and usually can be manufactured locally. Plywood is used instead of plain wood because of plywood's resistance to cracking, shrinkage, splitting, and twisting/warping, and because of its generally high strength.

Luan Panels, are often called Vaneers, are glued together, with adjacent plies having their wood grain at right angles to each other, to form a composite material. There alternation of the grain is called cross-graining and has several important benefits: Lauan Plywood Panels and Vaneers reduce the tendency of wood to split when nailed at the edges, this is a benefit for many do it yourself jobs, especially when you consider that most do it yourself'ers are novices in jobs for the first time. Mahogany Woods (Luan)

Laun Mahogany is a wood product that is often used in plywood board. It's most common use in it's plywood form is for the underlayment of vinyl and laminate floor coverings.

Another advantage of Lauan Plywood Vaneers is that they reduce expansion and shrinkage, providing improved dimensional stability; and it makes the strength of the panel consistent across both directions.

There is usually an odd number of plies, so that the sheet is balanced—this reduces warping. Because plywood is bonded with grains running against one another and with an odd number of composite parts, it is very hard to bend it perpendicular to the grain direction.

What is a Exotic Plywood?

Exotic Plywoods which can be discribed as a tropical type of plywood from the South American and Asian Regions actually began manufacturing began over 40 years ago in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. In the Home Renovation and Construction Industry, plywood in general from a select few tropical countries such as Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia is classified as Exotic Woods. The species of wood which is used is from the Phillippines and the traditional name is panels however it is commonly called Exotic Plywood. It can also go by the name Meranti, or also Philippine Mahogany. (Also Tropical by Nature)
